In today’s Indianapolis Star buried on page B4 is a story entitled “8 arrested in meth case,” five of the suspects are illegal immigrants from Mexico. This past Saturday the South Bend Tribune reported that another illegal immigrant from Mexico living in Mishawaka in St. Joseph’s County just outside of South Bend was indicted in a nationwide “false ID card ring.” Ironically, it was the same day that the South Bend Tribune reported of the ongoing investigation into death threats made against me and my family.
Yesterday Marco Dominguez the former news anchor for the local CBS Spanish television station allegedly went on the radio La Ley 1590 AM WNTS and in Spanish told the community to treat me like a “dog who will bite them because he hasn’t been fed.” If true, which I believe it is as confirmed by two independent sources, I interpret as an additional threat and an attempt to incite Hispanics to try to do me physical harm.
Frank Straub, the Indianapolis Public Safety Director along with our new Marion County Prosecutor Curry, denounced SB 590 as a Federal issue days ago and pointed to the Federal government as the answer and yesterday they stand side by side with US Attorney Joe Hogsett extolling the virtues of cross level law enforcement cooperation to bust a problem at the heart of part of the drive behind SB 590. I have spoken in years past with the Editorial Board of the Indianapolis Star pointing out the fact that Crystal Meth manufactured and distributed out of Mexico through Mexican gangs most of whom are illegal immigrants was a huge problem in Pike Township. It fell on deaf ears.
How did I know that? Because I have been investigating this issue for four years and have talked with the DEA and local cops who are on our streets everyday dealing with illegal immigration fallout. We are heading toward social conflict in Indiana because of this problem. Yesterday on WILO out of Frankfort the hosts claimed that the Hispanic community admits that 75% of its own community in Clinton County is illegally in the country.
The threat made against me was made by a Hispanic woman from South Bend. And so while an elected official is receiving threats for trying to enforce the Rule of Law, local law enforcement leaders are flip flopping on their view as to whether or not cooperation is necessary or effective. I think their Press conference answers their own question. I am disappointed at the hypocrisy, lack of integrity and thoroughness as well as inconsistency of Straub and Curry.
They need to wake-up and see the problem we have on the streets of Indiana. I am encouraged by the equal outrage of my friends in the Hispanic community who soon will speak out in Spanish against the craziness spewed by radicals within the community. Unfortunately, our Hoosier hospitality has been exploited and abused allowing the radical element to blend into the broader Hispanic community and it’s causing problems throughout the State.
While critics point to the Feds as the sole lead on illegal immigration knowing its history of inaction and incompetence, this week’s bust suggests that Hoosier taxpayers will once again bear the real cost that should be borne by the Mexican government. Remember, DOC spends $10 million every year to incarcerate illegal immigrants in our State prison system. One DC based organization estimates our total annual state and local cost is $608,000,000. The time for excuses is over and the time for solutions is now. Hoosier taxpayers cannot afford it economically or socially.
