Hoosier State Senator Stands with Rick Santorum

Posted by: Mike Delph on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 3:36:17 am

Republican Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum announced today, December 21st, that he has received the endorsement of Indiana State Senator Mike Delph. Delph said, "Like many fellow Republicans, I have watched with a hopeful eye for a Presidential nominee to emerge that is conservative with constitutional grounding in limited federal power, intelligent and knowledgeable on issues, honest with high integrity, and most importantly, electable. It is clear unlike others in the field, former Senator Rick Santorum has emerged as that candidate."

Delph continued, "Rick is a dedicated family man devoted to the service of others. He is an unapologetic and articulate conservative that no one has to worry whether or not he will cave behind closed doors. He is very intelligent especially on foreign policy understanding America's pre-eminent position in the world and our obligation to be the leader of the free world. On Immigration, he supports the inscription on our Statue of Liberty that says 'Give us your Tired, Poor, and Huddled Masses Yearning to be Free', but he insists as we all should that it be under law and within the boundaries of existing federal law."

Most importantly Delph stated, "I believe Rick Santorum can beat President Obama in a head to head election. He doesn't flip flop or pander for votes but has won elections as a true conservative. Rick cares about others, even those who may take issue with his positions or disagree with him. Republicans have a chance to pick a winner and Rick Santorum is that man. He is a leader for all of America."

Rick Santorum said: "I am thrilled to receive State Senator Delph's endorsement. Hoosiers, like Pennsylvanians, understand that we need to rebuild the manufacturing sector of our economy, to allow income mobility among the great middle of America that has been lost over the past several decades. Indiana has been hit hard by our loss of blue collar jobs. I look forward to working with State Senator Delph as we build upon our momentum in Iowa and expand to national campaign."

State Senator Mike Delph is the Assistant Majority Floor Leader for Communications in the Indiana State Senate. In the State Senate, Delph sits on the Public Policy and Tax and Fiscal Policy committees. Delph is an active member of his community, a proponent of home schooling, and a veteran of the United States Army Reserve. Delph and his wife Beth are the proud parents of five daughters.

Sen. Delph Statement on Mass Transit Proposal

Posted by: Mike Delph on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 1:54:55 pm

“I am opposed to my constituents in Marion and Hamilton Counties paying more income taxes to fund an unproven Mass Transit system. If the so called leaders in the business community believe so strongly in this proposal, let them lead by example by raising private dollars. They can start by looking inward to their own revenue. It is easy to ask others to pay for your expenses. User fees and free market capitol need to be tapped in advance of any effort to raise taxes. And to date to my knowledge such a plan has not been advanced.”

Thanksgiving Proclamation from President George Washington, Father of the United States of America

City of New York, October 3, 1789

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor, and;

Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me "to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanks-giving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness";

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be;

That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed;

For the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us;

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the People;

By constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord;

To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Sen. Delph statement on Drug Bust and ties to Illegal Immigration

Posted by: Mike Delph on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 4:53:06 pm

Drug bust another example of the cost Hoosiers have to bear due to federal inaction on illegal immigration

STATEHOUSE (Oct. 24, 2011) News of the state’s largest drug bust, just outside Senate District 29 in Wayne Township, linked to a Mexican drug cartel is just another in a long line of the escalating monetary and human costs Hoosiers are burdened with because of the federal government’s failure to crack down on illegal immigration, says State Sen. Mike Delph (R-Carmel).

“I hope this is just the beginning in a series of arrests to help our citizens retake their communities from those who reject the rule of law,” Delph said.

According to officials and news accounts, approximately five tons of marijuana and more than $4.3 million were seized after a several-month investigation leading to the arrest of four men – two of which were reportedly in the country illegally – who were part of a drug ring linked to a Mexican drug cartel.

“This is something I have talked about extensively for four years which has been largely dismissed by the mainstream media and cultural elite as hostile and unwelcoming to immigrants,” Delph said. “Calling illegal immigrants ‘undocumented’ is no different than calling these drug runners ‘unlicensed pharmacists.’ Those who think the Mexican drug war is a matter of concern only for southwestern states need only look at the local police blotter to discover it impacts Hoosiers.”

Delph continued, “I’m thankful lawmakers in Indiana had the foresight and wisdom to pass Senate Enrolled Act 590 cracking down on illegal immigration in the 2011 session. We need to demand similar action and courageous conviction on the part of our federal legislators.  But more importantly, we must demand more from the enforcers of our law to make arrests and deport those unlawfully in our country.  It’s time federal law enforcement listen to their neighbors and fellow taxpayers and aggressively do their job.”

During the 2011 session of the General Assembly, Delph successfully negotiated a compromise on his legislation cracking down on illegal immigration in Indiana. Senate Enrolled Act 590 sends a clear message that Indiana will no longer be a sanctuary for people who are in our state and country illegally, because of our federal government’s failure to act on illegal immigration.

What if Steve Jobs had never been born?

Posted by: Mike Delph on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 3:14:44 am

I never met Steve Jobs nor do I use many of his inventions.  Listening to Pandora over my Blue Ray allows me to create my own radio station that plays my music.  Jobs brought entertainment to our fingertips.  Whether it was the IPAD which you could watch the news or a sitcom or the IPOD through iTunes, he broke down generational and technological barriers.  But the question I have been fixated on is this, what if he was never born?  You see Jobs was adopted after his biological parents, grad students at the time, gave him up for adoption.  He could have been another in the millions of aborted babies.

But they chose life and the world is grateful.  But what about the other inhumane choices made on a daily basis.  Have we delayed the discovery for the cure to cancer, AIDS, lupus, Alzheimers?  Have we eliminated even more visionary types who could create, innovate, expand, and improve?  Just think about it for a minute, what if?  I don’t want to detract from the reflection on the life of this technological giant or inject a volatile issue during this time of deep personal grief.  But I can’t get away from the fact that this Edison of our day could have been denied life.

Many have personal and moral reasons for their positions on abortion.  Some are based on deeply held Christian tenets.  Others are based on a strong rejection of government involvement in a decision that alters not only the life of the child, but also the Mom and the Dad of the child.  We can leave those arguments for another day.  But for now, just imagine as we reflect on the life of Steve Jobs.  What if he were never allowed to live, to think, to explore the deep curiosity of his mind, and bring his thoughts to our market place.  It would have been a loss to the world and our posterity.  So thank you Steve Jobs for your many contributions.  I am grateful that you lived and so is the world.
