Sen. Delph: I will not be a candidate for Congress in 2012

Posted by: Mike Delph on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 2:53:29 pm

Sen. Delph released the following statement regarding a 5th Congressional District run

"In September I released a statement withdrawing my name from any consideration for federal office in the United States Congress.  With the retirement of Congressman Burton there has been renewed and intense speculation on a possible Mike Delph candidacy for the 5th Congressional District.  Out of respect for the political process and the desires of many friends, family, and supporters, I have taken the last week to revisit the issue.

While I have been very encouraged by both the political and financial support offered to me, the underlying circumstances have not changed.  My daughters are young and heavily involved in the community.  Missing mornings and evenings with my girls is not a sacrifice I am willing to make.  As Governor Daniels once said, 'I love my country, but I love my family more.'  For those reasons, I will not be a candidate for Congress in 2012.  To my family, friends, and supporters, I remain deeply grateful and touched from your faith and confidence in me.  I don't ever want to let you down."

Sen. Delph to Stump for Presidential candidate Rick Santorum in Des Moines, IA Caucus Night

Posted by: Mike Delph on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 2:29:44 pm

(Indianapolis, IN) Sen. Delph announced today that he will travel to the Iowa Caucuses and speak in support of former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum at a targeted site in Des Moines, IA caucus night, January 3rd. Last week Delph announced his support of Rick Santorum calling him the best and most complete GOP candidate able to win a general election. Click here to view the Santorum campaign's release regarding Delph's endoresment from last week.

Delph stated, "Senator Santorum has the momentum of conservatives and is in a great position to do very well on January 3rd." CNN released a poll on December 28th showing Santorum's movement into the top three and within 10 pts of the poll leader, former MA Governor Mitt Romney.

Delph said that fellow Hoosier and Santorum National Grassroots Coordinator, Shelley Ahlersmeyer, is helping to lead the charge in Indiana to get Rick Santorum on the Indiana ballot. Ahlersmeyer can be reached by email at shelley@ricksantorum.com or by phone at 574-551-3474. Ahlersmeyer is also serving as an advocate for Santorum at a chosen site in Iowa at the caucuses.

Delph plans to leave Indiana on January 2nd returning to Indiana January 4th. He concluded, "I believe Rick Santorum can and will be an outstanding President. Rather than complain about the race and the state of national affairs, I have decided to follow the advice that I give my five daughters, and that is to get involved." Senator Delph plans to tweet regularly and can be followed on Twitter by clicking the link at the top of the page or by following @mikedelph.

Santorum Headquarters in IA is located at 1197 Aurora Avenue in Urbandale, IA.

The Christmas Story--The Birth of Jesus Christ as told in Luke Chapter 2

Posted by: Mike Delph on Monday, December 26, 2011 at 2:53:07 am

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about." So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.

Hoosier State Senator Stands with Rick Santorum

Posted by: Mike Delph on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 3:36:17 am

Republican Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum announced today, December 21st, that he has received the endorsement of Indiana State Senator Mike Delph. Delph said, "Like many fellow Republicans, I have watched with a hopeful eye for a Presidential nominee to emerge that is conservative with constitutional grounding in limited federal power, intelligent and knowledgeable on issues, honest with high integrity, and most importantly, electable. It is clear unlike others in the field, former Senator Rick Santorum has emerged as that candidate."

Delph continued, "Rick is a dedicated family man devoted to the service of others. He is an unapologetic and articulate conservative that no one has to worry whether or not he will cave behind closed doors. He is very intelligent especially on foreign policy understanding America's pre-eminent position in the world and our obligation to be the leader of the free world. On Immigration, he supports the inscription on our Statue of Liberty that says 'Give us your Tired, Poor, and Huddled Masses Yearning to be Free', but he insists as we all should that it be under law and within the boundaries of existing federal law."

Most importantly Delph stated, "I believe Rick Santorum can beat President Obama in a head to head election. He doesn't flip flop or pander for votes but has won elections as a true conservative. Rick cares about others, even those who may take issue with his positions or disagree with him. Republicans have a chance to pick a winner and Rick Santorum is that man. He is a leader for all of America."

Rick Santorum said: "I am thrilled to receive State Senator Delph's endorsement. Hoosiers, like Pennsylvanians, understand that we need to rebuild the manufacturing sector of our economy, to allow income mobility among the great middle of America that has been lost over the past several decades. Indiana has been hit hard by our loss of blue collar jobs. I look forward to working with State Senator Delph as we build upon our momentum in Iowa and expand to national campaign."

State Senator Mike Delph is the Assistant Majority Floor Leader for Communications in the Indiana State Senate. In the State Senate, Delph sits on the Public Policy and Tax and Fiscal Policy committees. Delph is an active member of his community, a proponent of home schooling, and a veteran of the United States Army Reserve. Delph and his wife Beth are the proud parents of five daughters.

Sen. Delph Statement on Mass Transit Proposal

Posted by: Mike Delph on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 1:54:55 pm

“I am opposed to my constituents in Marion and Hamilton Counties paying more income taxes to fund an unproven Mass Transit system. If the so called leaders in the business community believe so strongly in this proposal, let them lead by example by raising private dollars. They can start by looking inward to their own revenue. It is easy to ask others to pay for your expenses. User fees and free market capitol need to be tapped in advance of any effort to raise taxes. And to date to my knowledge such a plan has not been advanced.”
